$2 Clearance Cosmetics at Rite Aid

My local Rite Aid has several bins full of cosmetics that are all $2 each. The cosmetics include nail polish, lip gloss, lipstick, foundation, eye liner, eye shadow, mascara & more. This is where I have been purchasing my mascara for quite a while. All of these are name brand cosmetics. They are probably just colors or types that are being discontinued, so the store is trying to get rid of them. Save and/or Make Money on Children's Clothes at Consignment Sales

There are a few different children's consignment sales in my area (Cullman, AL) each spring and fall. The first one this year is Wee Swap. This is a more upscale sale, so it's the perfect place to look for church clothes, Easter dresses, etc. at great prices. It's also a great place to sell those items and make some extra cash. This sale is scheduled for February 26 -March 2 and will be held at the Atrium on Highway 157 in Cullman. Click here for more information about this sale.

The second and largest sale is Cullman Kid's Mart, which is being held March 22nd - 24th. This sale will also be located at the Atrium on Highway 157 in Cullman. This is by far the largest sale in the area, and you can find everything from clothes and toys to bumbo seats, diaper bags, beds, bedding, and more. I would highly recommend this sale for first time moms (or any moms) who are on a budget. You can buy car seats, strollers, bouncy seats, bath tubs, high chairs - basically anything and everything you would need for your little one, and you will get it for a fraction of the retail price. There is also usually a sale held at Daystar Church and Northbrook Baptist Church, but I am unsure if they are still being held and/or the dates of those sales. If I find out any more information, I will post it here.

On thing to remember about these sales is that there is a very specific way that you need to tag the items you are consigning. Please read the guidelines on the website before you get started.

Money Saving Tip: Enter Giveaways & Sweepstakes

Here's a tip: Enter giveaways and sweepstakes. Many blogs have giveaways that you can enter, and there are tons of sweepstakes and instant win games on the internet. Just do a Google search, and you will find them. I usually stumble across giveaways on blogs that I follow. This morning, my husband, our girls, and I are going to the Barnum & Bailey circus thanks to a givewaway I won. I won 4 tickets from a giveaway hosted by a blog. That's at least $60 that we are saving, depending on which seats our tickets are for. I also won a Cricut Cake machine from a Mother's Day giveaway last year. That's about a $200 value. I know most of you are thinkïng "I never win anything..." but you can't win if you don't enter! Give it a try. =-)

Save Money With Apps

There are a few apps that I absolutely love.....because they pay me! Today I am going to tell you about my favorite app - Endorse. Click here to download it and start getting cash back on your everyday purchases. They frequently offer 100% cash back on coffee up to $3, 50% cash back on diapers up to $5, 50% cash back on Mountain Dew 2 liters, and 50% cash back on Zatarain's products. I have a toddler who is still in diapers, so this is a huge plus for me! They offer different products and cash back amounts each week. Some of my other favorites have been 10% back on gas (any brand), 30% back on paper towels (any brand), and 10% back on fast food (any brand). All you have to do is take a picture of your receipt with your phone, upload it, and check which items you purchased. I usually get my cash back within 1 day. Then, you can transfer it to your paypal account, and they do this very very quickly compared to other companies. What's not to love, right?

Make Money at Consignment Stores

One of most popular Consignment Stores in my area called Better Than Before Consignments has a great deal in February for kids'clothes. For any children's clothes that you consign during the month of February, you will receive 70% of the selling price. This is for spring and summer clothing. Normally you receive a lower percentage, so this is a great deal! I have already made my appointment and will be taking several items to consign. This is much easier than tagging and pinning for the consignment sales, so I thought I would give it a try. If you are interested, you can see more information here on their facebook page. Look under the "Events" category.

Money Saving Tip: Sell Stuff On Ebay, Craigslist, Etc.

If you're like me, you probably have lots of clutter in your house. Stop and look around, and see if you can find some things you don't really need or want any more, and list them on Ebay. After they sale, you can take the extra money and use it to help pay off debt or put it in your savings account. For larger items, you can list those on Craigslist. You can also look for local "yard sale" pages on facebook. There are 2 or 3 in my area. People post pictures of things they want to get rid of and their price. Other people can comment and make arrangements to buy the item. I just did this last weekend. I listed a play yard on two of these facebook "yard sale" pages for $75 on Saturday, and sold it on Sunday. Not too bad! I listed about 10 different smaller items on Ebay, and I sold 6 or 7 of those. I also listed a push mower and clothes dryer on Craigslist, and haven't sold those yet, but you just never know what people are going to want to buy. Anyway, my point is that just by taking 2-3 hours of my time(and maybe my husband's too)on Saturday to list these items for sale, I was able to make roughly $150. I am sure there are plenty more items around my home that I need to get rid of, so maybe I will try again in a few weeks. This is an excellent way to make some extra money if you are trying to pay off debt or if you are saving for something in particular, like a vacation. I dídn't have to pay anything to list on Craigslist, the facebook "yard sale" pages, or auction style on Ebay, so there was no risk involved. Why not give it a try?

Time Saving Tip: Plan Ahead

I recommend laying out everyone's clothes for the next day on the night before. Also, pack any lunches, diaper bags, bags you take to work, etc. the night before. I always make sure my 2 year old's diaper bag is packed the night before, so that I can grab it and go in the morning. My husband and I always lay out the clothes we will be wearing the next day. I lay out my daughter's outfit as well. I don't just do this on work days. I also do this on weekends for Sunday morning when we are going to church. It makes my mornings much less stressful, and that's always a plus!

Time Savings Tip: Make Lists!

     I constantly make lists, whether it's a grocery list, or what I need to get accomplished by the end of the day, or the items I need to pack for vacation. Lists help me keep my sanity. For some reason, I get some satisfaction from crossing an item off my list. This is especially true when I have about a million items on my "to do"list. It can become very overwhelming. If you're like me, you feel like you don't have time to breathe sometimes. I work full time, attend graduate school, am married, have a 2 year old, and a 6 year old step daughter who spends weekends with us. My plate is more than full, so I make lists. I recommend keeping a grocery list going at all times. Leave a notepad next to or on the refrigerator, and as soon as you think of something you are out of, jot it down. This way when grocery shopping day comes and you draw a complete blank as to what you need to shop for, you can refer to your list. I know that just about everyone knows they should make a grocery list, but you would be surprised how many people are wandering around Wal Mart with no list and end up spending twice as much money, and twice as much time, as was necessary. If you have a lot of tasks you need to complete each day, then start a daily list and mark things off as you finish them. Even if you don't complete your list that day, you can still look back and see how much you accomplished, and it will make you feel better. I also recommend making a list of items to pack for vacations and other trips. How many times have you gone on a trip and after you unpacked, realized you forgot something important. The time that stands out to me the most is when I went to the beach and forgot my hairbrush! My only alternative was a tiny comb, and combs don't really mix with long curly hair. So then I had to pay a fortune for a hairbrush at the closest souvenir shop. Now I make lists and cross items off as I pack them. A current list that is very important to me is a list of debts that my husband and I are trying to pay off. I can't tell you how great it felt to cross off the first one today! By making a list, I think it motivated us more. Sometimes you don't realize how much debt you have until you write it down and total it. It wasn't the best feeling in the world, but it has given me the motivation I needed to get started on paying those debts off.  
       No matter what your list may be for, I believe it is a great time saving and organizational tool. In our busy lives, we all forget things, and lists help us to remember.

Name Change

I have decided to change the name of my blog from Frugal Living to A Mother's Guide to Saving Time & Money. I wanted to expand the topics I would be writing about. It has been about a year since I have posted anything, but I hope to get back to blogging more now.
